Cops tend to get a bad rap at times, but this is not one of those occasions. This time, two deputies from Chambers County, Texas, are being praised for acting as heroes to save a man’s life, with no consideration towards their personal safety.
The Chambers County Sheriff’s Office has released footage from the scene of a rollover crash that occurred last week. It’s edited to include footage from the dashcam in the police cruiser and from the bodycams on the 2 officers, and it shows their heroic deed – and the danger they faced.
The officers have been identified as Braedon Boznango and Carlton Carrington, but the victim’s identity hasn’t been disclosed. He remains at a hospital in Houston, in critical condition.
“[Deputies] found a vehicle fully engulfed in flames from the rollover crash. There was an unconscious male lying in the front seat with his abdomen and legs on fire. The two deputies approached the vehicle without regard for their own safety and began reaching inside the vehicle to rescue the sole occupant,” the statement from the department reads, as posted on Facebook.
Upon arrival on the scene, the officers were alerted of the presence of an unconscious man in the car by a woman. She didn’t help them in getting the man out.
Once they managed to pull the man out of the burning vehicle, the deputies tossed him in a nearby puddle, thus effectively putting out the fire that was still burning on him.
“Both deputies were uninjured during their rescue of this man, however, the intensity of this fire melted parts of their equipment while on their uniforms,” the statement adds.
Reactions to the post, which has attained near-viral status, include heartfelt praise for the 2 officers, who rushed to aid the driver and did their best to take him to safety.
