Why would anybody want to take two behemoths such as the Tesla Model X P90D and the Range Rover Sport SVR to their top speeds on public roads?
Well, the honest answer would be "for the fun of it", while the safe one would have to imply a derestricted section of the German Autobahn. Luckily, the pieces of footage below brings both of these answers together, offering us a cool acceleration and top speed comparison involving the pair of high-riding machines.
However, we need to explain the quotes in the title above - this isn't an actual drag race, since the Ludicrous Mode-gifted Model X and the Range Rover Sport SVR didn't line up next to each other on the German highway. Instead, the hooning we have involved speeding in one car at a time and recording the action on the dashboard - the video below shows the dashboard instruments of the two SUVs, so it's easy to compare their performance.
The clip also includes the basic numbers, from the "static" specs to the go-fast figures and, since each of the two SUVs is taken to its maximum velocity, the video offers the full deal.
We usually disagree with comparisons pitting 10s Teslas (that's the jaw-dropping level achieved by the Model S P100D Ludicrous) against supercars or muscle cars, simply because the level of feelings and emotions generated inside each car during these adventures can't be compared.
Things are pretty much similar here, with the supercharged V8 feel of the SVR being the opposite of the Model X's appliance soundtrack. If we were to choose the most emotional (and probably fastest) V8 SUV to compete with the Tesla, that would be the yet-unreleased Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, with its incredibly appealing supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat motor. But that's another story for another time.
