Aimed at supporting the broad adoption of an In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) open source development platform, GENIVI provides reference implementations and implementation programs for the task. According to the Alliance, their efforts translate into shortened development cycles, quicker time-to-market and reduced costs for developers.
“The market for in-car entertainment and services is changing rapidly with more and more consumers are looking for a wide range of connected experiences form navigation to mobile video and gaming,” Andrew Till, Teleca vice president said in a statement.
“By joining the GENIVI Alliance Teleca will be able to keep abreast of the latest market developments and bring our extensive experience in mobile Linux and Open Source Software to the Alliance members. Teleca is looking forward to engaging in what is a very exciting and influential forum.”
Teleca did not announce yet what its part will be in the Alliance. For you to get a better idea about what GENIVI is all about, we'll look at the IVI services announced last month by Symbio.
Aimed at providing lightweight high performance tool chains for designers to prototype their UIs/HMIs (Human Machine Interface), the services will relate to music, news, Internet and multimedia, navigation and location, as well as telephony.
