For a while now, Audi has been toying with the idea of building hot supermini for a while now. In 2010, they took the platform from the VW Polo and made it into the more premium A1. The engine range for this model topped out with the 185 PS 1.4 TFSI that’s shared with the Polo GTI and Fabia vRS.
This year, they added a couple of doors and made the A1 Sportback adding more practicality to the most youthful Audi in the range.

Audi hopes to turn even this model into a hot car, as a prototype for the S1 Sportback has been spotted for the first time. The car is expected to be powered by a 2-liter TFSI engine, which we believe should be identical to the one in the Golf GTI VII, which is coming next year. The engine will be motivating all four wheels, something which Audi is saving for the S1.

You can tell it’s an “S” model by the fact that it’s got four exhaust tips. But other than that, it’s completely standard. We believe this is a sign that the S1 will arrive together with a facelift they haven’t yet figured out. Ingolstadt has promised their will stop making all the cars look the same, so this is their big chance to show it.

Interestingly, this is the first car shot in Sweden in a long time, indicating the winter testing season is about to begin. Looking forward to it and all the spyshots we can provide for you guys.
