Superleague Formula to Extend Worldwide

Superleague Formula began as a low-profiled series a few years back, bringing to media and fans attention a whole new concept: the implementation of a football-like feel into the world of motor racing. Kicked off at Donington Park back in 2008, the newly-formed series now aims to extend outside the borders of the Old Continent.

2010 marked the first season which comprised races outside Europe (2), both of them being held on Chinese tracks. Superleague Formula therefore traveled to Ordos and Beijing and, thanks to the huge success it enjoyed there, propelled the series organizers to look for other non-European venues for as early as 2011.

2010 was a hugely successful season for Superleague Formula. Not only did we expand our calendar to 12 rounds, but we also broke new ground with our hugely successful trips to two brand new venues in China,” said Superleague competitions director Robin Webb, according to Autosport.

We want to build on that success for next season and the huge amount of interest we've received from all four corners of the globe points to another superb year,” he added.

Of course, no venue has been announced as targeted for the 2011 calendar of the series, but “all four corners of the globe” could mean Australia, North America and even South America could provide future locations for the senior year of the competition.

Currently, the series is comprised of teams wearing the names of football clubs from 3 continents, as follows.

Europe: AC Milan, AS Roma, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, FC Basel, FC Midtjylland, FC Porto, Galatasaray, Bordeaux, FC Liverpool, Olympiakos, Olympique Lyonnais, PSV Eindhoven, Rangers FC, RSC Anderlecht, Sevilla FC, Sporting CP and Tottenham Hotspur.

Asia: Al Ain, Beijing Guoan, Team China

Americas: CR Flamengo, SC Corinthians
