SUNRED Confirms 6-Car Entry for 2011 WTCC

With rivals BMW out of the picture, SUNRED will tackle the 2011 season of the FIA World Touring Car Championship with no less than 6 SEAT Leon TDIs. After last year's defeat to Chevrolet's Yvan Muller, Gabriele Tarquini is once again regarded as one of the favorites to taking back the crown from the Swiss racer, as he will line up alongside newcomer Aleksei Dudukalo for Lukoil-SUNRED.

The scheme based on which SUNRED will make the grid in the 2011 FIA WTCC will be divided into 3 different banners, as follows: Tarquini and Dudukalo driving for Lukoil-SUNRED, Tiago Monteiro, Michel Nykjaer and Pepe Oriola driving for SUNRED Engineering, and Fredy Barth taking the last SEAT Leon TDI for SEAT Swiss Racing by SUNRED.

I am very pleased that Lukoil gave me the opportunity to continue racing in WTCC and to have Dudukalo as team-mate. I'll do my best to help him during his maiden season,” said Tarquini, who is looking for a repeat of his title winning campaign with SEAT back in 2009.

The WTCC has been a dream for me over the last few years. In 2010 Tarquini's advises helped me a lot in the SEAT Eurocup. I think that together we can become a strong force in the WTCC this year,” added Dudukalo, who finished last year's SEAT Eurocup in 7th place overall.

I am happy that SEAT and our partners have put their trust on me and I am delighted to race one more year in a championship which is one of the best in the world. I want to profit from the experience I have acquired over the past few years and translate that into my best season,” said Monteiro, a FIA WTCC veteran with SEAT himself, as he'll enter his 5th consecutive WTCC campaign at the wheel of a SEAT Leon.

Team manager Joan Orus admitted delight over getting to secure another 6-car operation for the second year running in the FIA WTCC series, saying that the goals for this season are, needless to say, the titles in both the WTCC Championship and the Yokohama Trophy.

We are very happy to race six cars once again. It will be an interesting season and I am sure that all our drivers have the necessary skill to succeed. We will fight for both the WTCC Championship and the Yokohama Trophy,” he added.
