A unique Aston Martin DB2/4 MkII “Supersonic” built in 1956 by Carrozzeria Ghia is set to go under the hammer on November 12, in New York.
Listed by RM Auctions, this one-off beauty was commissioned by one of the members of the Vanderbilt family and it was driven by Formula 1 driver Harry Schell. Introduced at the 1956 Turin Auto Show, the “Supersonic” Aston Martin is a Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance award winning car.
No wonder this stylish, albeit unfamiliar looking Aston Martin, is expected to fetch up to $2 million (€1.5 million) later this year. Based on the DB2 model, the 2+2 vehicle is powered by a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that’s good for 140 HP and a top speed of 120 mph (193 km/h).
This particular car is the last Supersonic aluminum body built by Ghia, who supplied such shells for three other vehicles: Alfa Romeo 1900, Fiat 8V and Jaguar XK-120. Discovered in a deteriorated state in 1974, the DB2/4 Supersonic was fully restored in 2011.
