One Texas man is facing serious charges after getting drunk at the wheel of his Dodge Charger, ramming another car from behind and then fleeing the scene of the crash with the other driver clinging on to dear life on the hood.
It happened in Bryan, Texas. The driver of the Charger, 50-year-old Andrew Allan Bush, was eventually arrested after 6 other drivers worked together to slow him down and eventually apprehend him. The man he took for an unwilling and very dangerous ride, Zane Wallace, a student, lived to tell the tale – and suffered only some bruising and scratches, KBTX reports.
Wallace tells the outlet that Bush rear-ended him at an intersection. He got out to inspect the damage to his pickup truck (which turned out to be minor) and was shocked to see that the Charger that had hit him was speeding towards him. He had no other choice but to jump on the hood and hold on as tightly as he could.
The Charger traveled like that, with Wallace on the hood, for another half a mile, reaching speeds of up to 50mph. Fellow motorists saw the predicament the student was in and worked to speed Bush down enough to allow Wallace time to jump off the hood safely. They then cornered the Charger and apprehended Bush.
As it turns out, Bush was drunk. When the cops arrived, they charged him with DUI, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and failure to leave information. At the time the news broke, he was being held on bail set at $18,000. Bush also admitted to the police that he had tried to shake Wallace off the hood of his car, which could have resulted in serious injury.
The student corroborates this version of events: Bush had no intention of letting him off safely.
“I remember banging on the window of the car while I'm holding on screaming let me off let me off and he just shakes his head no,” he says, adding that Bush showed clear signs that he “just didn't care.”
To his credit, Wallace is a much better man than Bush showed he could be. “I could wish bad things on him all day until the cows come home. But at the end of the day I'm still breathing and I just want him to get better and get the help he needs,” he says of his attacker.
