Ask most automotive journalists what is the most beautiful car in the world and they should answer “The Citroen DS.” Compared to the other cars at the time, it looked like a rocket ship. Not only that, but it was also technologically advanced, featuring hydropneumatic suspension, front power disc brakes, power steering, a fiberglass roof and a hydraulically operated clutch and transmission. Did we mention it was beautiful?

If there is any car that deserves a come-back, it is this one. So, while studying at France’s Institut Superieur de Design, design student Ugo Spagnolo took the time to sprinkle the design with a touch of futurism to create something ready for the year 2019. Why 2019, you ask? Because, that is when the Citroen celebrates 100 years of automotive excellence.

Based on Spagnolo’s drawings, some stunning 3D renders were created with help from his colleagues at the institute. According to Carscoop, the design has even received positive reviews from Citroen Styling Director Jean-Pierre Ploue.

Called the DS24, the 4-door concept fuses Citroen’s new design cues from the Revolt and Survolt with the lines and proportions of the now 64-year-old original car. The roofline looks similar to that of the DS3 supermini, while the nose has something of a Corvette look, sporting aggressive vents and bulges.

Access to the interior is done through two hinged doors at the front and two sling ones at the back. As for the cabin itself, that is in no way disappointing, with a glowing transmission tunnel that suggests an alternative powerhouse, possibly even hydrogen.
