Stromer ST1 electric bikes are beings recalled, the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) announces. M33 Elite and P48 Platinum models are affected by the CPSC 14-130 recall campaign, and both women’s and men’s bikes are to be replaced.
All mentioned Stromer ST1 bikes are affected, regardless of their black, red or white color. BMC-USA, the Stromer ST1 distributor has received one reports of a fork breaking, followed by a crash resulting in minor scrapes and bruises to the rider. The distributor advises that these electric bikes not be used until an authorized dealer repairs them.

Customers are to contact their nearest Stromer dealer and schedule a repair. Dealers will install a new fork free of charge. Users can easily determine whether their Stromer ST1 is affected by this recall by checking the serial number: in case the number starts with ST1S2F, ST1S2G, ST1S2H, ST1S2I, ST1S2J, ST1S3A, ST1S3B, ST1S3C, ST1S3D and ST1S3E, they’re in for repairs.

The serial number is etched on the Stromer ST1, at the bottom of the rear fork, and is easy to spot. One of the pictures after the jump shows the exact location of the serial number. The affected bikes have been sold between January 2012 and May 2013 in authorized Stromer dealers. Around 1300 bikes are affected in the US, and only 11 in Canada, the CPSC informs.
