Stoner Tops Second Day of Testing at Valencia

After the first day of testing at the Spanish track was clearly dominated by reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo, the second day was all about former MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner, who was the quickest of all riders.

Riding Honda's RC212V MotoGP bike, as part of the official post-season testing at Valencia, the Australian set a 1:32.066s lap time today, 0.113 seconds quicker than Lorenzo.

However, while Stoner did no less than 63 laps, Lorenzo decided to complete just 30, withdrawing from the circuit at lunchtime. The two were followed by Ben Spies, who comes as a Yamaha factory rider starting next season.

Simoncelli was fourth (despite a fall), Pedrosa fifth, with Ducati Marlboro's Nicky Hayden sixth, while Valentino Rossi, who will compete for Ducati starting the 2011 season, finished the day 15th. The Italian continues working on the choice of engine configurations that the team is evaluating for 2011.

"To be less than 1.5s off Stoner at my first proper test is a real boost for my confidence and I was able to do a lot of laps in the 1.33 bracket, which was race pace last weekend. I feel really at home in the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team and together I think we can look forward to a positive 2011,"
13th placed Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha) stated.

Stoner joins Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso in Repsol Honda's 2011 rider line-up. The 25-year-old completed testing an all-white Honda, instead of the team's Repsol colors, due to contractual obligations with existing employers Ducati.
