Stoner Diagnosed with Gastritis and Anaemia

The doctors have finally gotten to the bottom of Casey Stoner's mysterious illness during the past few weeks. After undergoing some further tests in the United States last week, it has emerged that the 2007 MotoGP champion suffers from a slight gastritis and mild anaemia.

The illness has troubled the Ducati Australian ever since the Catalunya Grand Prix in mid-June, affecting his performances during race days for the past 3 races. The doctors are confident, though, that with the right medication, Stoner will be 100% fit for racing in a matter of weeks. That would mean this weekend's German Grand Prix is also compromised, as the Sachsenring race will be MotoGP's last event before the traditional summer break.

I have been in USA until Saturday to do all the tests. First of all I'd like to thanks all the Doctors involved in this, Dr. Ting and Dr. Tuan in the Fremont Surgery Center, Dr. Macchiagodena, Dr. Catani, Dr. Ceccarelli and of course my physiotherapist Freddy. Hopefully step by step I will feel better with their indications,” said Stoner in a press preview for this weekend's German GP.

Stoner admitted, however, that he'll also have to tackle some physical problems ahead of this weekend's event, as he is still recuperating from his crash in the qualifying session of the US GP, at Laguna Seca.

I still don’t feel like I am 100% but the biggest problem now is the ribs that are very painful after the crash in the USA GP Qualifying. It will be probably another hard week end, but as always, we will do our best to stay as much as possible close to the lead of the Championship,” added Stoner.

So there you have it, just like title rival Jorge Lorenzo, Stoner's sole aim for the German race will be to limit the point damage to championship leader Valentino Rossi in the overall classification, as winning the race is not looked upon as a realistic goal for the weekend.
