Stobart: WRC Programme Was Never in Doubt

In a time when most carmakers are looking for ways to reduce or even quit their motorsport operations, Stobart Group reaffirmed their commitment to their World Rally Championship programme. The primary sponsor of Ford's satellite team in the WRC insisted that their participation for a 3rd consecutive year in the series was never in doubt.

“Stobart Group remains committed to its motorsport programme due to the fantastic return it receives in terms of global media exposure and business-to-business opportunities. We hope to see the Stobart drivers challenging for honors throughout the championship's 12 rounds and continuing to fly the flag for the team at the premier level of rallying,” said Stobart CEO Andrew Tinkler.

Stobart have already submitted their participation in the former M2 race – now known as the 8-event Manufacturer Team classification – along with Citroen's Junior Team. However, as compared to the French manufacturer's satellite team, Stobart Ford will compete in all 12 events of the upcoming season.

Stobart has already announced their new lineup for the 2009 season, with Estonian newcomer Urmo Aava joining Matthew Wilson and Henning Solberg for 8 of the 12 events on schedule.

“The driver line-up of Matthew, Henning and now Urmo Aava has the potential to deliver very good results, and the Ford Focus WRC will once again be an extremely competitive package. The main aim for the season will be to build on last year's results and regularly score podium finishes,” said Malcolm Wilson, team boss for Ford's works team in the WRC.

Stobart will be present at the start of the upcoming Rally Ireland, scheduled January 29th with all its 3 drivers.
