In preparation for the 2010 season, Penske Racing announced yesterday the appointment of Steve Addington as Kurt Busch’s No 2 Miller Lite Dodge crew chief, replacing Pat Tryson, who will be employed by Michael Waltrip Racing from the next season onwards.
According to Penske, Addington's appointment was decided upon based on his results in the past years, despite the fact that the team would have preferred to promote someone from within its ranks.
Addington was until now working for Joe Gibbs Racing where, coincidental or not, he was the crew chief of the No 18 Toyota driven by Kurt's younger brother, Kyle. Together, the two recorded 12 wins in the last two seasons.
"Steve Addington has a proven track record of success in NASCAR and we are excited to welcome him to Penske Racing,” Roger Penske said accordi9ng to Auto123.
“By adding Steve to the winning Miller Lite team and working closely with Kurt, we believe we have the combination in place to compete for a championship as we head into the 2010 season.”
“I am really looking forward to working with Penske Racing, Kurt Busch and the Miller Lite Dodge team,” Addington added. “This a championship-caliber team with a great driver and with the resources and experience at Penske Racing, we have the opportunity to add to the team’s success starting next season.”
Kurt Busch is confident the 2010 season will be better than the already strong one which just ended. With Addington as crew chief, the 2004 Cup Series champion even hopes to take the 2010 series title.
