At yesterday’s launch event in New York, SRT brand boss Ralph Gilles had more than a few good surprises in store for us, despite the numerous leaked photos of the SRT that came up on the internet in the past months.
If you’re a Chrysler racing fan, few things will bring you more joy than seeing a brand new Viper racing car, and that’s just what was shown. This silver brute is called the Viper GTS-R, and it marks the company’s return to endurance racing.

Designed for the the 2012 American Le Mans Series, the Viper GTS-R is the brainchild of SRT Motorsports and Riley Technologies. It still features the LED lights of the production car, but it’s now as low off the ground as a lawn mower, and comes with side-exit racing exhaust and an adjustable rear wing.

“I don’t think it’s possible to overstate the significance of the SRT Viper returning to the top level of professional sports car racing”, said President and CEO of the ALMS Scott Atherton.
“The Chrysler Group has a long, storied and very successful history of competing with the American Le Mans Series. The fact that they’re coming back concurrently with the introduction of the new production car and doing it simultaneously, we would be hard-pressed to come up with a better-case scenario."

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
