The Audi RS6 is one of the strangest and yet desirable performance cars out there, as it offers the option of driving all your dogs in the back the back of its Avant body at speeds that rival supercars. There’s a new generation of the A6, so Audi engineers are naturally eager to show what they can do.

Unfortunately, Ingolstadt never got round to offering their twin-turbocharged V10 monster in the States, but that might change soon... only not with a V10. Confused? What we mean is that the new generation will get the new V8 and is likely to make the trip across the pond and onto dealer’s lots. In fact, the prototype you are looking at is actually being tested there, giving credit to recent rumors.

Back to the engine, which is likely to come in the form of a downsized 4.0-liter V-8, the same unit that will be shared with Bentley, and thanks to the addition of a pair of turbochargers will rate at somewhere between 550 and 600 hp in the RS6’s configuration. The unit will also see action in various forms of the A4, as well as the S7.

This is only a prototype RS you’re looking at, as it the quad exhaust tips of the lesser S model range, which will be replaced by two huge ones on the production model. The cosmetic changes also include aggressive bodywork and 20 inch wheels.

Audi Drive Select and a torque vectoring rear differential will almost certainly be come into play as standard features.
