Our spies stationed near a Mercedes test facility have just let us know that a mid-life facelift for the A-Class hatchback was recently spotted. The camouflaged areas are small and so are the changes, which really doesn't surprise us.
A little over two years ago, the brand new hatchback was introduced and made the jump from quirky city car to fully-fledged VW Golf rival. But revisions to the powertrains and some cosmetic tweaks are in order.

We know a new A45 AMG with about 385 PS will debut towards the end of 2015, so the facelift should come out before that, most likely at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Just like with the B-Class facelift, the cosmetics are not being drastically changed. Small tweaks to the headlights, air intakes and grill will be made. The blue prototype is a basic model like the A 180 d and has cheaper halogen headlights. However, we have a single photo of a higher-spec car where the LED+xenon setup that has undergone some mods is seen.

Another thing we noticed is the shape of the exhaust system, which has new end pieces that fit flush into the bumper. On the inside, we expect only minor revisions like the addition of keyless start and entry, mood lighting and fresh trim. Rumor has it that a bigger 8-inch tablet-style display will land on top of the dash.

Since the A-Class pretty much has a complete engine range, we don't expect any noticeably changes. But the A 220 diesel model will get a slight bump in power from 170 to 177 PS. Mercedes is going to introduce its own modular engine family that will include 3-cylinder mills, but they shouldn't be ready for at least two more years.
