Last Sunday night, the German tuners at Mcchip-DKR let us know via their Facebook page that they were working under the bonnet of everybody's favorite AMG hot hatch mode, the A45. A Stage II power box was being developed and we were excited to find out what they were able to extract from what's already the most power-dense 2-liter in the world.
Today, the fruits of their long labor were revealed, on video no less. After tweaking the ECU map, the tuners dynoed their Stage 2 version of the A45 AMG at 440 horsepower, 80 more than the stock engine. Torque is also up significantly to 555 Nm, 105 Nm more than stock.
How fast is the hyper hatch now? We don't know for sure, but Renntech pushed the same A45 AMG engine to 414 hp and they said that with a race launch, it could get from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds and from 0 to 200 km/h in 14.5 seconds. So theoretically, this Mcchip version is faster than that, which makes a plausible competitor even for the S63 AMG Coupe with 4Matic. Scary thought, right?
By no means are we encouraging you to do this to the very expensive and already high-strung motor of the A45 AMG. However, Mcchip's work does how that can be done if the owner is willing to put everything on the line for the sake of performance.
