Holly mother of all hothatches, we might just see the day when a VW Golf leaves the factory with 300 horsepower. The game has moved on a lot since the days of the original GTI, and the prototype for the next generation Golf R was spotted testing with not one, not two, bot three, but four exhaust tips. How shallow can you be.
The prototype is heavily camouflaged, but you can still spot the fact that it’s an “R” based on the huge brakes and the five-spoke R-style wheels.

Since it’s based on the new MQB modular platform, so we should see a reduction in overall weight. But VW will keep the usual 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which in the current car makes 270 PS. Expect an increase in power of at least 10 horsepower if not more. After all, Mercedes will probably have 340 hp in their A45 AMG.

The regular Golf will be shown at the beginning of September and will enter production in November. The GTI will be shown as a concept in Paris and will enter production next year. The Golf R, however, still has a good year of testing ahed of it.
