The automotive world is ready to be completely absorbed by the Geneva Motor Show, but this doesn’t mean that there aren’t any other important developments going on outside the Swiss event right now. The best example we can think of is the BMW M3 F30, with our spy photographers recently encountering a test vehicle during a winter testing session.
The new M3 will literally have a change of heart, as BMW is expected to replace the current naturally-aspirated V8 with a tri-turbo six-cylinder engine. There are certain rumors indicating that the Bavarians will even give up their traditional in-line configuration for a V6 one.
This is because the new engine could be a chopped version of the 4.4-liter V8 unit used on the M5 and M6. Thus, we could get a 3.3-liter powerplant delivering around 450 hp, with the new unit also upping the ante on the efficiency front.
In addition to that, the vehicle will make use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic for various parts such as the roof in order to lose some weight. Don’t get your carbon fiber fantasies rolling yet - at the moment, it’s too early to talk about a deeper use of the material - the first BMW that will use a carbon fiber construcion for the body will be the next 7-Series.
