Spyker in Exclusive Talks with GM, Saab Decision to Come Soon

The battle for Saab continues but, judging by the latest rumors on the matter, Spyker managed to set itself apart from the rest of the contenders and is now in pole-position to purchase the Swedish unit. Spyker CEO Victor Muller told Reuters that a decision on Saab is expected to be announced soon, as negotiations continue every day.

On the other hand, Genii Capital representatives are claiming that they haven't heard anything from General Motors from almost one week since they submitted the revised offer.

"The situation is on hold," a source familiar with the development of the Genii - GM negotiations told the aforementioned publication. Additionally, the insider is claiming that Spyker might indeed have the first option to buy Saab but talks on the Swedish unit's future continue.

Unfortunately, nobody knows exactly what is going to happen to Saab as General Motors has already started winding down the brand but, at the same time, it continues talks with the involved bidders. Spyker's CEO said the "outcome is still unpredictable" but "it will be clear very soon", hinting than an announcement might emerge in the next days.

Last week, Swedish newspapers wrote about a new scenario in which Genii Capital and Dutch carmaker Spyker would join forces to submit a single bid for Saab. Muller quickly denied the rumors, while General Motors refused to comment on such a possibility.

"Obviously we have seen various press coverage about the [Saab] bid, but we don't have any comment on anything like that," a Spyker spokesman told just-auto.
