Although Saab is now involved in a very complicated winding down process, UK dealerships continue to process orders as the US-based manufacturer GM hasn't provided any information regarding their businesses. As a result, Saab's production plants in western Sweden will continue to manufacture vehicles until the end of next week, Reuters informed. After that, nobody knows exactly what will happen but more details are expected in the course of this week.
Paul Aukerlund, chairman of Saab's main union, IF Metall, said the two liquidators sent by AlixPartners, the company hired by General Motors to supervise the winding down process, arrived in Trollhattan one week ago but since then, no changes to the production schedule have been imposed.
"They have done nothing," he told the aforementioned source.
Even if the process of winding down Saab goes on, General Motors continues discussing the sale of the company, with both Spyker and Genii Capital currently involved in deep talks with the US-based owner. However, it is still unclear whether General Motors really plans to sell the brand or continue the closure just as initially planned.
Last week, GM officially announced that it has appointed AlixPartners to be in charge of closing Saab and submitted a group of liquidators to its headquarters to replace the CEO and the board of directors.
"Stephen Taylor and Peter Torngren have been officially appointed by the appropriate authority in Sweden as wind-down supervisors of Saab and in this role they will jointly replace the CEO and board immediately. They will meet with management, unions and other stakeholders, and will start working on a plan for an orderly wind down," GM said in a statement last week.
