Speeding and distracted driving are the two counts which add to the serious, yet non-life-threatening injuries the rider in the video sustained after hitting a bear cub on the Canadian Highway 7 near Hope, British Columbia.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police reports that the biker received medical attention after the cash was reported and the footage recorded by his on-helmet camera was analyzed to understand the condition which led to the accident.

The police officers were surprised to see that the bike was riding his machine at about 140 km/h (87 mph) and that the rider was not exactly paying attention to the road, being preoccupied filming his dashboard.

Corporal Robert McDonald of E Division Traffic Services mentions that even though events like this one are completely unpredictable, driving at a lower speed and paying attention to the road ahead are things which can limit the severity of such crashes, or maybe prevent them from happening altogether, by means of braking in time to avoid collision, swerve or completely stop in certain cases, as needed.
