Special Rally Exhibit in Audi Museum Mobile

“The Cornering Wizards: Group B Rally Cars” is the name if the exhibit hosted at the Audi museum mobile in Ingolstadt, from August 12 to October 31 2009, showcasing the brand’s exciting rally era.

1983 to 1986 were among the most important years in rallying. Therefore, 12 cars from that period, with a collective power output of 5,000 bhp will be the highlights of the exhibition.

Among the Group B cars, the so-called “Ur-quattro” (Audi quattro Rallye A1 Group B - 340 bhp), that created a sensation in 1983 with lady Michele Mouton at the wheel, will also be present in the museum. Hannu Mikkola, the “Flying Finn”, took the world rally champion’s title in the same year with this car.

Another highlight of the exhibit is the Audi quattro Rallye A2 Group B (360 bhp) from 1984. Swedish driver Stig Blomqvist took the world championship the same year.

Also from 1984 comes the Audi Sport quattro Rallye Group B (420 bhp), nicknamed ‘shorty’ thanks to its reduced wheelbase, driven at the time by rally star Walter Rohrl.

Also on display will also be the legendary Audi Sport quattro S1 Group B (476 bhp), and eight competitors’ cars, including the Peugeot 205 Turbo and Renault R5 Turbo, an MG Metro 6R4 and Lancia’s Delta S4 and 037 Rallye.

A change in the rules of rallying in 1983 allowed manufacturers of these rally cars to work on developing highly tuned engines with over 500 bhp, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just three seconds.
