We kept on telling you about a special, one-off BMW i8 that was put up for auction by the German company at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance for charity. Well, yesterday, thanks to Jay Leno that was there to introduce the car to the audience, the car was sold for $825,000.
The auction, hosted by Gooding & Company during their annual Pebble Beach event took place yesterday evening and saw the price rise to record breaking heights for an i8. Sure, there haven’t been too many hybrid sport cars from BMW auctioned in the past but this one definetly takes the cake.
The money, about six times the MSRP the i8 has in the US ($135,700), will go to the Pebble Beach Company Foundation, which raises funds for Monterey County youth and distributes grants spanning the arts, athletics, environmental sciences, educational organizations and community programs.
As we’ve been telling you, this was no ordinary car either. This i8 was dressed in BMW’s Individual Frozen Grey Metallic exterior paint, had Dalbergia Brown leather upholstery and contrasting BMW i Blue stitching inside. The words “Concours d’Elegance Edition” i8 are laser etched in the interior and “BMW i8” is embossed into the front headrests. To top it all off, the signatures of all high-ranking BMW officials involved in making it reality were engraved on a plaque installed in the back. Congratulations are in order for its winner that is not known at the moment.
