Spartans Put Out Fires in Beijing

The booming Chinese automotive industry does not only prove to be a God sent gift for the passenger vehicle segment, but apparently is good for emergency responder vehicles manufacturers as well.

In what represents its biggest largest order from China, Spartan Motors announced it will deliver 22 Metro Star Pumper chassis for the Beijing Fire Department. The chassis will receive its body and pump systems at W.S. Darley & Co and will be shipped to Beijing starting the second quarter of the year.

"The Metro Star Pumper has a track record of success and has proven itself to be one of the most reliable and effective fire trucks available anywhere in the world," John Sztykiel, CEO of Spartan Motors added.

The vehicles to be used by the Beijing Fire Department features a spacious cab with a flat floor and various seating configurations. Ten firefighters can be seated inside the Metro Star, who can egress via what Spartan calls "the industry's tallest and widest cab doors."

To fight fire, the truck will use a heavy duty CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System), delivered via special pumps which can pump water and foam to the top floors of buildings as high as 300 meters.

"An order of this size represents an incredible opportunity for Spartan to expand awareness of our products in the Chinese market, so we are extremely grateful to the Beijing Fire Department and W.S. Darley & Co. for their confidence in our products and honored that our chassis have been chosen to help protect the people of China."
