In addition to being one of the best apps to listen to your favorite songs and artists, Spotify is also a top music discovery tool, as it can make recommendations based on what you previously listened to.
And while this feature really comes in handy, someone on reddit has suggested a feature that I’m pretty sure many would find useful: an “I don’t know what to listen to” option.
More specifically, Spotify should be able to provide music recommendations without any kind of past data, more like “I’m feeling lucky” from Google Play Music.
Only that Spotify would thus help users discover songs, artists, and genres much easier, and the recommendations could be further improved based on user interaction, such as likes and dislikes.
“Spotify already recommends you music based on songs which you heard in the past, but here's the problem: I want to discover new songs, artists and music genres, but how am I supposed to do that when Spotify keeps showing me the same stuff over and over again? I listened to many hip hop and electronic songs recently, and now I'm only getting recommendations based on that which makes finding new songs / music genres very hard,” the user explains.
Needless to say, such a feature would make sense not only on Android and iOS, but also on Android Auto and CarPlay. And this capability could be easily controlled with a voice command through digital assistant, so you can easily begin listening to music you don’t know you want to listen by telling your assistant to “play some music.”
Whether or not Spotify would add such a feature in a future update is something that remains to be seen, but for the time being, the company has remained completely tight-lipped on this idea. Sending feedback in this regard is the best thing we can do right now to make the whole thing happen.
