BMW is currently undergoing a software update in its dealerships and due to some malfunctions, a lot of these reported massive delays in fixing cars that came in for random checks.
According to Atomobilswoche, 1,200 BMWs are currently waiting at German dealers and cannot be fixed due to missing parts. The delivery system became sporadic and unpredictable after the Bavarian company updated its software.
The problem is so bad that BMW is now offering its unfortunate customers replacement cars so that they can go about their business until the problem is solved. However, this started to pose some new problems, as not everyone wants the same replacement car.
“There were other solutions, but they wanted to save money. Now it will be getting three times as expensive,” BMW works council chief Manfred Schoch said in an interview.
A BMW spokesman confirmed the backlog to Reuters, but said the situation is improving.
