smart fourjoy Concept is Officially Revealed

Without any doors, no roof and not even a rear window, the smart fourjoy concept we showed you an official sketch of yesterday has finally had its public unveil today. For a more “hands on” experience, you will probably have to wait until the Frankfurt Auto Show, between 12 and 22 September, but until then here are the official photos and information about the model.

Set to preview the upcoming second generation of the smart forfour, the fourjoy is a kooky concept car in all the ways we were expecting a smart to be.

We are talking fantastically-short front and rear overhangs, with the wheels pushed on the four most outer points of the body and a highly robust tridion safety cell.

Dr Annette Winkler, Head of smart, says: “The smart fourjoy is a study that successfully translates the unique design and the urban driving fun of the smart fortwo to an extremely compact four-seater. Numerous details of previous show cars that received very positive feedback have been incorporated in the fourjoy. The exterior proportions already reveal a lot about the appearance of our four-seater production smart which will be launched at the end of 2014 and will also enable families to travel together in a smart.”

The model's exterior dimensions (3494/1978/1494 mm – 137/78/59 inches) give it a low turning radius of just 9.1 meters (29.9 feet), while the moving power is provided by a 75 horsepower electric engine with an unspecified torque figure.

The engine draws power from a 17.6 kWh lithium ion battery which takes a maximum of seven hours to fully charge from a household socket or less than an hour at a public charging station with the 22 kW on-board charger and rapid charging cable.
