With the Toyota GR Supra sharing its underpinnings and more with the BMW Z4 (G29), it's obvious that everyone will draw many comparisons with models from the Bavarian automaker.
However, we didn't know those would include more quarter-mile dragstrip action than anyone imagined. Usually, the nimble Toyota GR Supra isn't pitted against the Z4 because the latter is rarer than hen's tooth at the local racetrack. Instead, GR Supras usually went up against the likes of M3 and M4s.

Alas, it turns out the fairer comparison would be against the BMW M2 or even the M240i (with or without xDrive), for that matter. A 2024 Toyota GR Supra 2.0 starts at $46,440 in the United States, whereas the 2024 BMW 230i Coupe is even cheaper at a starting MSRP of $38,800. The M240i, meanwhile, kicks off at $49,700 or $51,700 with xDrive, whereas the GR Supra with the equivalent 3.0-liter BMW twin-turbo mill starts from $55,400.

Well, that's all fine and dandy on paper, right? They could meet on the street, and the drivers would probably spend days comparing their two rides, which are both very close to each other and worlds apart simultaneously. But there's no time for that when on the side of the local quarter-mile dragstrip. Besides, any comparisons could be rendered futile if the rides are tuned and modded.

But there's no need to take our word for granted. Here, let us give you an eloquent example. So, the good folks over at the racing-focused ImportRace channel on YouTube were on point during TX2K's 2024 edition, which took place between March 12 and 17 in Texas, near Dallas, at the iconic Texas Motorplex. Initially, they started the coverage in Ennis, Texas, with a trio of bangs – a set of crashes involving an old Z restomod, an Audi R8, as well as a Ford 'it's a Mustang thing.'

Then they focused on a crazy Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and its marvelous track attempts that ended with a new 7.48s category world record. Now, just to show us that's all in a business day's program at TX2K24, the focus is on a 'sleeper' BMW M240i that fought hard against a trio of modified Toyota GR Supra sports cars.

So, the first race put everything into the proper perspective with the white BMW knight in shiny, roaring armor shooting out like a rocket and leaving behind a parachute-equipped black GR Supra that was probably sleeping in its lane. The victory was a cool one, given the 9.02 pass, while the adversary didn't even get its time revealed anymore.

Secondly, the little BMW rascal destroyed a matching-white Toyota GR Supra with an even better 7.91s ET against the German-Austrian-Japanese ride's 8.56s effort. However, later that night, it turned out that the quick M240i had a problem with consistency. As such, the last skirmish against another white GR Supra ended with a loss – 8.4s versus 8.92s. Well, maybe next time, it will only do seven-second passes.
