Volkswagen brought over the amazing Golf GTI Edition 35 that uses a detuned version of the Golf R’s engine, while SEAT decided on a bunch of performance factory Leons and Ibizas, plus some motorsport variants, but what Skoda unveiled today made our jaws drop.
Ever thought that the roofline of the Fabia was too high, even in the case of the vRS? Well, that problem has been fixed in a big way with the arrival of the Fabia RS 2000 design concept that was created especially for the jubilee meeting (30th year of Worthersee).
The design of the vehicle borrows heavily from the Fabia Super 200 rally car from which it takes the stance, bulging body and those white rally wheels. However, the model that was designed specifically for the GTI-Treffen has a low roadster roof that is made even more amazing by the fact that the Fabia still has four doors.
“These days, the GTI-Treffen is rightly hailed by fans of powerful engines and sporty customization as the Mecca of car tuning,” says SKODA boss Winfried Vahland. “Anyone who comes to the event once never wants to miss another year of this fascinating get-together. The jubilee year of 2011 is a welcome opportunity for us to show off our sports models and make sure that everyone knows that SKODA really has something to offer here.”
Skoda has also brought over the race-winning rally car that dominated last year’s IRC world championship series. The man at the wheel - Austrian rally driver Raimund Baumschlager - will also be making an appearance today at the Czech carmaker’s stand.
