Yes, Skoda now has its own electric vehicle, based on the Octavia estate, and the Czech automaker has begun testing a fleet of ten such cars. The goal with the Octavia Green E Line is not to create a production model, rather to gain the vital experience needed in the field.
“The Octavia Green E Line shows our technological expertise in the field of electric mobility. It is a milestone in our comprehensive sustainability strategy,” says Skoda CEO Winfried Vahland, adding: “Our development work in this field is in close cooperation with Volkswagen Group.”
To create the electric car, Skoda took the Octavia Combi and mated it to a 85 kW electric motor that draws its energy from a 23,5 kWh lithium-ion battery. It’s standard sprint time of 12 seconds isn’t too shabby, but top speed is limited to 135 km/h (84 mph). The battery, which is located under the middle and rear floor panel and in part in the boot, provides enough juice for about 150 kilometers (about 90 miles).
