With so many electric vehicles on the market, it's safe to say that we've crossed the threshold of a new era for urban mobility. And it's comforting to know that we now have the possibility to choose between a wide array of eco-friendly mobility solutions for both commuting and recreation.
A fascinating micromobility solution engineered to provide a non-polluting alternative for local transportation regardless of the season is the Skick electric utility scooter. What differentiates this EV from the other products on the market is its incredible versatility, as it is designed to provide enjoyable rides across all kinds of terrains, from forest trails to wet asphalt and snowy roads.

Designed and manufactured in Finland by a young company called Arctic Rides Oy, the Skick e-scooter is actually touted as the only light electric vehicle designed for year-round use available on the market. It features a three-wheeled, two-legged design for enhanced stability and offers adjustable ground clearance that can be changed without the use of tools. Its frame is made of black powder-coated steel with aluminum running boards.

Bicycle-like handlebars allow for easy maneuverability, and in snowy conditions, the rear wheels lift up and the integrated skis take over. Hydraulic disc brakes, parking brakes, and excellent lighting ensure a safe ride even in the harshest conditions.

The name of this unusual scooter comes from the words "ski” and "kick," which somehow explain how it works. When used as a scooter on asphalt or gravel, it rolls on a large off-road front tire and two adjustable rear tires aided by electricity, and when used as an electric snowmobile, it basically slides over snow with its integrated skis. However, regardless of the terrain, it also allows for traditional propulsion, with muscle power assistance by kicking.

With a 48V powertrain optimized for cold environments, the e-scooter/snowmobile is said to handle anything you throw at it, ensuring decent performance in any condition. A powerful 1000W brushless electric hub motor allows Skick to reach top speeds of 25 kph (15.5 mph). Its 20Ah Li-Ion briefcase-style battery, which is replaceable and is housed in a stylish, lockable case, offers around 40 to 55 km (25 to 35 miles) of range, depending on the rider's weight and riding conditions.

The Skick utility scooter measures 117 × 79 × 81 cm (46 x 31.1 x 32 inches) and tips the scales at just 65 kilograms (143 pounds), so even after the battery drains out, you can still use it without motor assistance, as it is very easy to push or kick forward like a traditional kick scooter or sled. What's more, it boasts a foldable frame, which makes it easy to store or carry along in your car's trunk on longer trips.

To further increase its versatility and adapt the utility scooter to various use scenarios, different transport accessories, like a toolbox, a backpack, or a pizza bag, can be attached to a metal honeycomb structure on the front rack.

The Skick electric utility scooter/snowmobile is available in different color options, including Green "RadioActive," Black "Stealth," and Red "Alert, and is priced at €3,690 (which translates to approx. $3,965 at today's exchange rates). With its adjustable ground clearance, enhanced stability, easy handling, and off-road capabilities, the Skick is a great mobility solution for navigating both urban and rural areas.
