Some pedestrians seem to be unable to make the distinction between what's safe for them and what's not. And the guy in this video is one of their leaders, most likely.
Trying to get across a busy street with no pedestrian crossing is an accident waiting to happen, and this time it did. The rider braked hard, but to no avail. Getting past a running pedestrian is a game of chance, and and experienced riders know this.
It's simply a 50-50 chance that the scared pedestrian backs off and tries to make it back on the sidewalk. Having chosen to swerve past the pedestrian behind him has, in this case, the same chances to end up bad like the other way around. We could however question the decision to swerve versus the braking only.
It's funny in a way to see the injured pedestrian limping away and trying to make a run for it, and the rider following him on foot, himself a bit shook up, too.
