Shanghai-VW, Volkswagen’s Chinese joint venture managed an excellent sales performance in August, as they managed to sell some 105,000 units, bringing the total number to 836,074 units sold so far in 2012. The August figure is 10.5% better than that of last year.
Of the total number, some 86,565 were VW-badged cars, including the new Lavida which made its Chinese market debut on August 19 - it sold 20,239 units, bringing the total number of Lavidas sold to over 800,000 since the car was introduced in 2008. The VW Polo is also doing very well in the PRC, selling some 12,866 units in August, while the new Passat managed to sell 16,444. The Tiguan SUV sold 13,788 and the Touran MPV only sold 3,639 units in August.

The same month also marks an increase in Skoda sales, by 2.2%, with sales totaling 18,717 units, of which 11,215 were Octavias, followed by the Fabia and Superb which sold 3,796 and 3,706 respectively.
