Currently holding the title for the world's most powerful production four-cylinder engine, the bonkers M133 two-liter in the Mercedes-Benz A 45 AMG (W176) has yet to make anyone feel bored while being put to work.
With no less than 360 hp and 450 Nm (332 lb ft) of torque from a displacement of just 1991 cc, it sports a better hp per liter ratio than the internal combustion engine from a McLaren P1, which is pretty much out of this world for an engine that is made in the thousands.
Paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that also has a launch control function and 4Matic all-wheel drive, the tiny M133 four-pot can make the feisty A 45 AMG accelerate from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.6 seconds.
If that doesn't doesn't sound impressive enough, keep in mind that it accelerates faster than a supercharged E 55 AMG W211, a BMW M5 E60 or any stock Porsche 911 Carrera with a manual. And yes, this is a compact car we're talking about.
While the 4Matic system is still based on a front-wheel drive car, meaning that it is probably one of the least drift-prone street AMG models ever, the way in which it accelerates from a dig with the launch control system is pretty much addicting.
When the model also comes with the optional performance exhaust, which pops and crackles like a popcorn machine with each shift, you can pretty much call it a day and imagine that you're in a WRC car. The short video below is a perfect proof for this statement, especially when it comes to the exhaust sound. Enjoy it and don't forget to turn up the volume!
