The second iteration of the fashionable or cringy (depending on your POV) BMW X2 Sports Activity Coupe (SAC) arrives in the Land Down Under with ample choice - including the all-electric iX2 and the X2 M35i xDrive performance model.
The Bavarian automaker first introduced the second-generation X2 early in October 2023 before it was presented to the live audience at the inaugural Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, formerly known as the Tokyo Motor Show, for almost seven decades. Deliveries to the US kicked off in March 2024, though not before the company performed a host of pre-sales upgrades that included the addition of exotic stuff like matte paintwork, among others.

Now, the line of subcompact luxury crossover SUVs produced by BMW since 2017 is prepared to showcase the goodies of the second iteration in Australia, too. Unlike the United States, the Land Down Under is getting the full complement of models, including the "first X2 to feature fully electric power in the form of the iX2 xDrive30." However, that's not the base model – that would be the iX2 eDrive20, which is set to arrive later this year.

Speaking of entry-level stuff, the most affordable X2 will be the xDrive20i, which boasts 150 kW (201) horsepower, AWD, and a starting price of AUD 75,900, which translates to around $49,123 at the current exchange rate. It's a bit of an 'ouchie' for Aussies, though, as over in the United States, the starting MSRP is $42k, and customers are getting the X2 xDrive28i for the cash, complete with AWD and 241 horsepower.

Be that as it may, the Australian X2 gasoline models and fully electric iX2 will be "produced flexibly on a single assembly line at BMW Plant Regensburg in Germany" together with the high-voltage batteries for the iX2. The other gasoline option is only the X2 M35i xDrive with AWD, 233 kW (312 hp), and a sprint to 62 mph (100 kph) in 5.4 seconds instead of 7.4s. The price is also higher at AUD 92,900, which equates to over $60k as opposed to $51,400 like in the States.

However, the Australian fans have access to the all-electric iX2, which is a forbidden fruit in America, and the iX2 xDrive20 plus iX2 xDrive30 are tucked between the gasoline models in terms of pricing: AUD 82,900 and AUD 85,700, respectively ($53,696 and $55,512). They come with 201 hp and 308 horsepower, plus an EV range of up to 455 or 395 km, respectively.

BMW also promises a lot of tech goodies on the all-new X2, including a standard seven-speed double-clutch transmission (gasoline variants), an "extensive array of automated driving and parking systems," plus "frontrunning digital services (that) include BMW iDrive with QuickSelect and BMW Operating System 9." So, will you buy an X2?
