The automotive design has evolved a lot in the past 100 years or so, starting from the old carriage shape in the 1900’s to rounded rocket shapes of the 60’s to bold rectangle designs of the 80’s and the modern sci-fi angles of today.
While some designs of today’s vehicles appear pretty basic to us, there are some cars that reminds of future space-age vehicles as they were imagined in the old days.

It’s true that we haven’t come across levitating flat bottomed cars yet, but their intricate shapes can be found rolling on four wheels on the streets.

Autocar happened to make a “Top 10 Vehicles From Another Planet” list, to sum up the most intricate designs cars got in the latest period, and guess who got on 4th and 2nd place? It’s in the tile, duh...

The Scion iQ on 4th place is one of the coolest looking city cars ever. It’s quite a small car, considering its 78.7-inch wheelbase (1,998 mm), but its shapes and flowing lines are the ones that makes it interesting and stylish for today’s standards. Imagine people from the 1920’s seeing one...

Second place is held by the almighty Toyota FJ Cruiser. Having bulky shapes and being retro styled, it really resembles a vehicle made to be dispatched from a freshly landed spaceship and sent into unexplored territory. We bet that it could easily filled the casting requirements for a sci-fi movie in the 70’s.

To see the rest of the top and the surprise most outlandish car ever (the frog-looking Nissan Juke), go to Autoguide’s page here.
