Even though Scion is in desperate need of brand new models, it seems the US-based brand won't be getting redesigned vehicles for the next three years.
Speaking to Edmunds, Toyota US vice president of sales Paul Holdrige said replacement models for the automaker's current lineup are at least three years away, blaming the delay on the recession and damage caused by the 2011 tsunami in Japan.
"We are basically selling the same vehicles that we were selling four years ago, and we are going to be selling basically the same vehicles for the next couple of years. It has been a very difficult four or five-year span in the auto industry and you've got to place your financial assets where you are going to get your best return. Decisions were made that it wasn't going to be Scion, so that is where we are. We are looking at a three-year window on a couple of products that we hope come to fruition," Holdrige said during an interview at a Toyota event.
Scion is currently offering five models in North America - the tC, FR-S, iQ, xB and xD. All models continue unchanged for the 2014 model year.
