Schumacher to Debut New Mercedes Chassis at Spa

Michael Schumacher admitted that he is looking forward to driving a new chassis in the 2010 Formula One championship, after spending the entire first half of the season at the wheel of the 01 car from Mercedes GP.

The only change occurred after the Chinese Grand Prix, when both Schu and teammate Nico Rosberg were served a completely revised chassis, benefiting from a longer chassis than the “A” version of the Mercedes W01. However, the evolution of that car was initially expected to debut in Germany two weekends from now, in the hands of the 41-year old champion.

After the disappointing performances he had scored in recent weeks – point-scoring finishes and trailing Rosberg in both qualifying and race – Schumacher can't wait to drive the new car, which will hopefully provide him with a little more speed in the second part of 2010.

I was hoping to get a new chassis at Hockenheim as I have been driving the current one for a long time. But it (the new car) will probably only be ready for Spa,” says Schumacher after his 9th place finish in the British Grand Prix.

However, he pointed out that people should not expect a 180 degrees turnaround in performances with the new chassis, as the lack of in-season testing makes everything in Formula One totally unpredictable. The last example were McLaren, who came up with a huge update for their home race last weekend and failed to get the necessary speed to challenge for pole position or race win.

There are a few changes, but as we have seen with McLaren, it's not easy when you can't test. We will try the changes on Friday (at Hockenheim) and hope that they will work,” added the German racer.
