Schumacher's Benetton B194 eBay Sale a Scam?

Michael Schumacher's title winning car in 1994, the Benetton B194, appears untouchable for the fans who carefully bid for it on eBay. As the competition for acquiring this genuine piece of F1 history unfolded during the course of last week, today was supposed to be the day when the car's new owner was due to be unveiled.

However, only hours before the end of the auctioning process, the web page in which the B194 was put for sale simply... disappeared. Seconds before that, the auctioning price for the title-winning car had already reached 2.6 million euros.

According to Switzerland's Motorsport Aktuell, the eBay auction of the car was not genuine at all. But of course we're not to give any verdicts on the matter, until a statement from either Schu or Benetton will surface in the media.

While the B194 was reportedly to be found in Canada – as it said on the eBay page that auctioned it – a new B194 (basically the same car, only now claimed to be the actual Benetton that got Schu his first world title) seems to be located in England and was immediately placed on eBay, with bids starting at 1.15m pounds sterling, as reported by the GMM news agency.

For those of you who don't seem to understand what the fuss about this car is, know that the B194 was the Benetton that got Schumacher his controversial title back in 1994. In the final race of the season, the German driver supposedly hit title rival Damon Hill and got him out of the race, consequently securing the necessary points margin to win the title.
