Schumacher, Buemi Attend Las Vegas Karting Event

Sebastian Buemi seems to have taken his preparation programme for the 2010 Formula One season too seriously, as the Swiss driver was pictured by his team's official site while karting in the famous city of Las Vegas.

The highest placed rookie of the 2009 F1 series decided to take part in this year’s SKUSA Supernationals event – held in the car park of Las Vegas' Rio Hotel – in the SuperPro category, as it provided him with the perfect opportunity to both enjoy his spare time outside F1 and step behind the wheel of a single-seater after more than 3 weeks of absence.

It was fun all the same. And the atmosphere was great with a big crowd there to watch all the races,” said Buemi after the event.

While the fact that Buemi attended the aforementioned event might not be of interest to that many F1 fans out there, know that two other high-profiled F1 figures competed in the Sunday race also: controversial driver Nelsinho Piquet and 7-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

Also, as noted by the Toro Rosso official site, although the race was held on Sunday, preparations for it – including practice sessions and qualifying procedures – began from as early as Thursday. Buemi eventually ended the Sunday action in the first part of the race, as he crashed his kart and suffered mechanical problems in the process after the first few laps. He had qualified in 8th place.

Michael Schumacher ended the race in 7th place, while Piquet had to settle for 10th overall. The event is known to be a major karting meeting that attracts the best kart racers in the world annually.
