Schumacher Goes Karting for F1 Preparations

Since testing a Ferrari F60 prior to his Formula One return at Valencia is out of the question – after some strong stands from Frank Williams and the two Red Bull backed teams – Michael Schumacher decided to continue his training programme at karting.

The 40-year old German revealed, via his personal website, that he has conducted his first karting session in years at the Lonato circuit in Italy. He wasn't alone though, as he was joined by Ferrari's long-time test driver Luca Badoer.

Karting has a very good training effect, that is why today I just jumped into a testing day of the Tony Kart Team in Lonato. There is nothing better for my preparations at the moment - in terms of steering wheel forces for example Karting is even more difficult than Formula 1.

Luca Badoer is with me, and together we found again today that Karting is just an awful lot of fun,” said the 7-time world champion on michael-schumacher.de.

In addition, the Ferrarian said the location of the test will be a great opportunity for him to simulate the high temperatures at Valencia, two weeks from now.

And the fact that it has been boiling hot here is simulating the temperatures expected for Valencia,” added Schu, who was captured by all the photographers at Lonato walking topless in the paddock, as reported by the GMM news agency.

Schumacher recently revealed that he has lost 3 kilograms during the past week, as part of his fitness programme prior to the Valencia race. Although it was reported that a sore neck will probably influence his return to F1, the German driver avoided mentioning anything about it.
