Schumacher Aims for 8th World Title in F1

Michael Schumacher announced he is ready to push for his 8th title in career in Formula One, as the team he joined for the upcoming 3 seasons is championship material. The soon-to-be 41-year old German joined Mercedes Grand Prix until the end of 2012, where he will once again work with former partner Ross Brawn.

Ever since these two have joined efforts in Formula One, Schumacher became a winner in the championship. Starting at Benetton and continuing at Ferrari, this working relationship has led to no less than 7 championship titles in the drivers' race.

Brawn GP, the team owned by Ross Brawn during the 2009 season, has clinched both the constructors' and drivers' titles last year, before being purchased by Mercedes-Benz earlier this autumn. Therefore, joining a world championship team, managed by a world class principal and backed by the best engine manufacturer in F1 can only lead to one aim: another world title for Schu.

However, Schumacher admitted the competition for the 2010 title will be tougher than ever, with Fernando Alonso re-entering the title fight following his joining efforts with Ferrari, Felipe Massa's return to racing and Jenson Button pairing up with Lewis Hamilton at McLaren-Mercedes.

It (Mercedes GP) is a team that has won both championships this year. With Mercedes Benz as a strong partner, our aim can only be to fight for the championship. There will be strong competition, as we have seen, but I am thrilled to be back in this one,” said Schumacher.

He confirmed that, after 3 years outside F1, he regained his desire to race and fight for the world title.

I was tired of F1 by the end of 2006, but after three years of absence I am getting back all the energy and I feeling strong right now. I played around with motorbikes, and I feel ready for some serious stuff now,” added the German driver.
