Normally, we wouldn’t encourage anyone to text and drive. It’s one of the most distractive ways to use a phone behind the wheel and one of the greatest crash causes. Still, if you can’t help your self, we came across this small device on Kickstarter that lets you message without getting your hands off the steering or eyes of the road.
It’s called DRIVE and it looks like a small secondary dashboard you place right on the steering column. From there, you’ll have to connect it with your phone, pick some contacts you wish to text and then let it rip.

How? We’ll, there are no buttons, nor screens to touch here. You can simply swipe your fingers across the areas it scans and it won’t work if your hands are not placed on the steering wheel.

Simply swiping your fingers interrupts a pair of pulsing infrared beams on the left and right side which in turn invokes specific actions based on the context, like browsing through the menus and selecting actions.

From here, everything will rely on voice - you dictate the message to be sent and will also hear the incoming messages as they’ll be read to you. The device also uses three microphones and advanced software to cut down background noise, so even if you drive a mean V8 beast, you will make your self understood.

The only thing wrong with DRIVE is the fact it doesn’t have too may backers. There are only 12 days to go at the moment of writing this article and only $15,247 (€12,190) have been pledged out of the total $88,000 (€70,360) goal.
