Car manufacturers aiming to set a new production vehicle lap record are not the only ones taking advantage of the 2016 Nurburgring season's final part. Apparently, so is Top Gear.
At least that's what the image we have here seems to tell us, with the photo reportedly showing new-age Top Gear host and Nurburgring aficionado Sabine Schmitz filming at the Green Hell earlier today.
The photo comes from Nordschleife-addicted page BridgeToGantry, with Dale Lomas, the guy who runs the page and took the photo (he's also a Ring Taxi driver) explaining: "Today there's a blonde lady driving a Volkswagen for a BBC TV show about cars,"
Gone are the days when Sabine used to initiate Clarkson, Hammond and May in the secrets of lapping the Ring using a Ford Transit. While the boys are almost ready for the debut of their new adventure (here's The Grand Tour trailer), Sabine showed up at the infamous German track in a Volkswagen Golf GTI.
Despite the poor quality of the image, this looks like the Clubsport S incarnation of the famous hot hatchback. You know, the one that currently holds the Ring front-wheel-drive record and can get round the track in 7:49.21 - Yep, nowadays a 2-liter uber-compact can be as fast as a Lamborghini Murcielago.
The resulting adventure (that Nissan Navara camera car is there for a reason) will probably come our way in Series 24.
As we reported late last month, Matt LeBlanc (stop calling him Joey!) will be the new face of TG for the next two seasons, after Chris Evans left the show. Chris Harris and Rory Reid are the other hosts that complete the established three-people format.
As for Sabine, she'll be part of the special TG characters, along with Eddie Jordan and, of course, The Stig. Time for some shenanigans, then.

The big picture, at least for the moment
