Saab Working on New Models

Saab is one of the companies that you should keep an eye on in the next few years, as it is preparing a revolution that is aimed at bringing it back in the game after the failed General Motors marriage.

One of the Swedish carmaker’s focuses will be the future Phoenix platform, which will give birth to a new 9-3 model. But there’s more than meets the underpinnings here. According to autoweek, the platform will also serve as a base for other models that will be introduced after the new 9-3 comes to the market.

Victor Muller, Spyker (Saab’s new owner) founder and Saab Chairman told the aforementioned source that the new generation of the 9-3 will reach showrooms in 2012.

This will be a breath of fresh product air, as GM didn’t make efforts to offer new models due to the fact that it was planing to sell or kill the brand.

The executive explained that the story of the Phoenix platform is connected to General Motors, with the American company being involved in the development of the 9-3 platform. However, Saab is now modifying the platform and preparing stylistic changes for the vehicles.

Saab will also enter new market segments, with one of these being the compact or sub-compact one. Muller revealed that Saab will build a model based on the platform of the future MINI and BMW 1 Series. The vehicle, which will use the 92 name is still in the early development stages, so we'll have to wait until we get the first details.
