Plagued by problems on the home continent, where it faces production freeze because of debt issues with its suppliers, Swedish automaker Saab launched the new 9-5 model on the Australian market on Thursday.
Promising to bring with it to the local market, aside for the return of the badge Down Under, the most advanced technologies ever used in a Saab model, the new 9-5 will sell in Oz for prices starting at AU$71,900. The new 9-5 will be offered in a choice of three models, with the flagship Aero to be priced from AU$94,900.
“Today is no ordinary day. The April Australian launch of the new Saab 9-5 highlights the power of having more freedom to act faster in an ever-changing world. It also demonstrates our ability to deliver a true alternative to the big Europeans in the premium segment. From now on, Saab will be even more Saab,” said Stephen Nicholls, Saab Cars Australia managing director.
For that money, aside for the thrill of driving a Saab (the brand seems to have more and more fans and supporters as it gets into more trouble), future owners of the model will receive an aircraft-like head-up information display called Pilot HUD, adaptive lighting (Bi-Xenon Smart Beam), Saab DriveSense adaptive chassis with real-time damping control, touchscreen navigation as standard, dynamic parking assistance and Saab XWD with eLSD.
“We have created an advanced and very distinctive product by leveraging the power of our roots in key areas such as progressive Scandinavian design, sporty driving and responsible performance,” added Jan Ake Jonsson, Saab Automobile CEO.
