Rossi Set to Enjoy Valencia GP, Eyes First Win in 5 Years

We've been through the exact same situation in Formula One a weekend ago, when the racers all tackled the season finale at Abu Dhabi with both titles already secured by Jenson Button and Brawn GP. It's now about Valentino Rossi and Yamaha, both of whom have managed to win the 2009 MotoGP titles in style and are now heading to the season finale in Valencia mainly for sightseeing.

Although the Spanish track is way too familiar for Rossi, the Italian will take most of the weekend to visit stuff, and maybe grab another win for the statistics. The Valencia GP doesn't necessarily bring back good memories for the Italian rider, as it was the place where he ended his title-winning streak in the MotoGP back in 2006 (to Honda's Nicky Hayden).

However, with the 7th MotoGP title already in his pocket, a lack of pressure may boost Rossi to his first win at the track in the last 5 years. The last time he took the chequered flag here was back in 2004, in his first year with Yamaha.

Valencia hasn't been a great track for me in the past and I've had some bad times there, but at the moment we're in great shape and our bike is working well everywhere we go, so I hope it will be the same at Valencia,” said Rossi, whose careful riding in the past few races led to a lack of wins since the Misano race in San Marino.

I am very happy to be going to the final race with the championship won and the pressure off, now we can just enjoy ourselves. It's been a fantastic year and now we just have one more weekend before we start work for 2010,” added the Italian rider.

Rossi and teammate Jorge Lorenzo will remain in Valencia for the first few days of the upcoming week, when the first testing session of the off-season is scheduled at the Spanish track. Both riders will get to make a first impression of the newly improved M1, marking the beginning of the 2010 preparations.
