Rosberg to Become Race Winner if Renault Guilty

Now that the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) have summoned Renault to appear before them and explain their actions during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix on September 21st, people are already making speculations on the potential verdict. And the majority of them already see Renault guilty of fixing Fernando Alonso's win last year.

After gathering all the information on last year's race, the FIA considered there are enough grounds to charge Renault for sporting misconduct. The Enstone based team was blamed for ordering Nelsinho Piquet to crash out of the race in order for the safety car to be deployed, therefore giving Alonso the leading spot in the race.

If Renault are to be found guilty of those actions – although F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone strongly suggested the WMSC hearing does not mean Flavio Briatore's team is guilty of anything – they are facing expulsion from the sport. In addition, Alonso's win would be scrapped by the FIA, who will therefore award the 1st place to Nico Rosberg.

In that situation, the Williams F1 driver will become Grand Prix winner for the first time in career. Remembering the facts of the 2008 Singapore GP, Rosberg admitted there were some rumors regarding Piquet's crash, but nothing was confirmed at the time.

But what I personally think now is, 'Cool!', because it means I can win my first race. Everything is possible,” said Rosberg.

As for Flavio Briatore, the Italian manager strongly denied all allegations regarding a presumable fix, insisting that the safety car was triggered not by Piquet, but by Honda's Rubens Barrichello – who also crashed into the wall.
